Edition 2021

Reimagining the Digital Campus

Technology that serves learners

Institutions reflected on what worked, what did not and how digital tools can enrich teaching without replacing human contact.

After a year of emergency online teaching, the second edition looked at building thoughtful digital learning environments: accessible platforms, fair assessment online and blended models that keep teachers and students connected.

The second edition moved the discussion from emergency solutions to design. A digital campus is more than a learning platform: it covers admissions, libraries, advising, assessment, laboratories and the many small services that make students feel they belong. The edition asked institutions to involve students in the design, to protect privacy and to make sure that technology never becomes a barrier for people with limited devices, bandwidth or digital skills.

How institutions marked the day

Institutions, student unions and organisations around the world marked the day on campus, online or in a hybrid form, on 19 June or in the days around it. Events held for this theme included:

  • A hands-on lab where students test and review the digital tools of their own institution
  • A panel on accessible design: captions, screen readers and low-bandwidth materials
  • A debate on fair and honest online assessment
  • A "digital skills clinic" where staff and students help each other with tools
  • An open day presenting blended and online programmes and the support behind them
