Edition 2026
Knowledge Without Borders
International cooperation in higher education
A celebration of academic mobility, joint programmes and the partnerships that connect universities across continents.
The seventh edition returned to the spirit of the Bologna Declaration, the origin of 19 June, and asked how mobility, recognition of qualifications and shared research can stay open and fair in a more divided world.
The seventh edition returned to the spirit of cooperation that gave 19 June its meaning. Mobility, joint degrees, shared laboratories and fair recognition of qualifications depend on trust between institutions and between countries. The edition invited universities to celebrate the people who cross borders to learn and teach, and also those who cooperate across borders without leaving home, through virtual exchange and joint research.
How institutions marked the day
Institutions, student unions and organisations around the world marked the day on campus, online or in a hybrid form, on 19 June or in the days around it. Events held for this theme included:
- An international evening where students present their countries, languages and study traditions
- A panel with exchange students and alumni who studied abroad
- A virtual classroom or joint lecture connecting two or more partner universities
- A session on the recognition of qualifications and how to make study abroad count
- A "partnership speed dating" meeting for staff who look for new international partners
