Edition 2025
Research for Impact
Science, society and public trust
Universities and researchers shared how open, ethical science benefits society and strengthens trust in knowledge.
The sixth edition highlighted the societal value of research and the importance of open science, research integrity and honest public dialogue at a time when evidence is increasingly questioned.
Research changes lives when people can understand it, trust it and use it. The edition encouraged researchers to open their work to the public, to explain their methods honestly and to show how evidence reaches decisions in health, education, industry and policy. It also recalled that integrity, meaning careful methods, fair credit and transparency about uncertainty, is what earns public trust.
How institutions marked the day
Institutions, student unions and organisations around the world marked the day on campus, online or in a hybrid form, on 19 June or in the days around it. Events held for this theme included:
- A public science day with short talks, posters and laboratory visits
- A "meet the researcher" session for secondary school students
- A workshop on open access, open data and reproducible research
- A panel on research integrity, peer review and the responsible use of data
- A policy dialogue where researchers meet local decision makers
